The name comes from the Sanskrit words patta (cloth or canvas) and chitra (picture), referring to the intricate paintings traditionally created on specially prepared cloth.

Salini is a traditional Pattachitra artist from Raghurajpur, Puri, Odisha; India’s heritage village known for preserving centuries-old art forms. Art has been part of my family’s legacy for generations, and I’ve been practicing Pattachitra for the past nine years, working with my family to carry forward this rich artistic tradition. Through her work, she strives to preserve this authenticity while sharing Odisha’s rich cultural heritage with collectors and art lovers around the world. Salini believes that each piece she creates is more than a painting; it is a reflection of generations of craftsmanship, devotion and tradition.
